Colorectal cancer detection by means of optical

چکیده
In the present work we investigated the possible role of the native fluorescence of blood plasma in the management of colorectal cancer (CRC) and its feasibility as a new tumor marker. Sample of blood was collected from 248 asymptomatic blood donors and from 246 CRC patients. The native fluorescence of blood plasma was measured using a conventional spectrofluorimeter. The intensity of fluorescence of blood plasma at 623nm (IF623), reasonably ascribed to endogenous porphyrins, was significantly higher in CRC patients than in healthy subjects. The diagnostic capability of IF623 in the discrimination between healthy subjects and CRC patients was tested by Receiving Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, which resulted in an Area Under the Curve (AUC) of 0.72+/-0.01. Fluorescence measurement of blood plasma might be considered diagnostically useful as a candidate for a new tumor marker for CRC management. The procedure is characterised by a great acceptability and by a very low cost, and might be used in a two-step screening wherein an IF623 positive result is followed by colonoscopy. 2. INTRODUCTION

Investigating the Relationship between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer and Colonic Polyps
Background: Colorectal cancer is a common cancer and has a high rate of mortality and morbidity. This can be reduced by screening tests. Some of the studies have recently referred to Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) as a marker for early detection of various cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the RDW and early detection of colorectal cancer and polyp. M...
متن کاملDetection of Microsatellite Instability by High-Resolution Melting Analysis in Colorectal Cancer
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide. microsatellite instability (MSI) is a molecular marker of a deficient mismatch repair system and happens in almost 15% of CRCs. Because of a wide frequency of MSI+ CRC in Iran compared to other parts of the world, the importance of screening for this type of cancer is highlighted. Methods: The most common MSI detecti...

Background: Metastasis and recurrence of colorectal cancer after treatment is attributed to stem cells. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the expression of stem cell marker CD166 in colorectal cancer by immunohistochemistry and clinicopathologic parameters. Methods: From 2006 to 2012, 121 colectomy specimens of patients with colon cancer that were operated in Babol...

Background: Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer in the world which is mainly caused by epigenetic and environmental factors. Among these epigenetic factors, gut microbiota is an important one. Although it has not been proved a unique group of bacteria correlated with colorectal cancer, these findings have generally demonstrated differences between healthy and disease gut microbio...

متن کاملA Pilot Study of CK19, CK20 and GCC mRNA in the Peripheral Blood as a Colorectal Cancer Biomarker Panel
Colorectal cancer remains one of the major cancer- related deaths despite progress in the treatment during past decades. Detection of disease at earlier stages reduces its mortality. The aim of current study was to investigate expression of Cytokeratin 19 (CK19), Cytokeratin 20 (CK20) and Guanylyl Cyclase C (GCC) mRNA in peripheral blood of non- metastatic colorectal cancer patients which may r...
